Overview

Imagine if Moolighter and Tiny Bookshop had a baby.

Manage a library in a dark fantasy setting: collect books, arrange shelves, assist patrons, and host community events! Hire adventurers to delve into the depths of a dead Necromancer’s lair for rare tomes. Restore and customize books while uncovering a character-driven tale in this peculiar mining town.

Story

You unexpectedly inherit the lair of a dead necromancer and decide to turn it into a public library.

The lair is high up in the mountains, above a mining town where the mining companies control most aspects of life. Your library soon offers a badly needed third space and a chance for the community to come together.

You first delve into the deeper layers of the lair at the behest of the town's mayor, who claims the Necromancer had stolen books from her private collection. And there are secrets about both the town and your own family to be discovered in the depths of the dungeon.

Main Features

Library Management

Collect books, decorate, clean, assist patrons with finding the right book. Plan and host events like book clubs, game nights and more.
There is no selling of books. Money usually only comes from donations to the library. But other streams of support can be unlocked.

Dungeon Delving

Hire adventurers, explore the different dungeon layers, fight in turn-based combat, find books and other loot. In the dungeon, you can also gain access to some automation possibilities for your library management.

There are no random encounters on the map.

Book Binding Gameplay

The player can customize their own character, furnish and decorate their library, and customize any book in their posession. On occation, towns folk will ask for their private books to be customized as well.

Books will also start getting dirty and broken as they get used more. Cleaning the books of mold, marks and stains is reminiscent of other cleaning-focused games.

About us

We are Lutz Kadoch and Elena Knödler. This project started out as Elena's a solo dev project, but we decided to pool our efforts now the Obscure Gods eGbR has been officially founded.

Elena has about eight years of experience working in the AAA Games Industry and a Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology. Most recently, she worked on Anno 117 as a Narrative Designer. However between work and raising their first child, at the end of 2025 Elena realized she was getting much too close to an emotional and creative burn out and needed to change something asap.

In May, Elena and Lutz decided to found Obscure Gods eGbR and to finish the project together.

Lutz comes with a long career in System Administration as well as an instructor and a teacher for coding, and most recently worked for Gunzilla. As Gunzilla started shutting down their Frankfurt office and let him go, Lutz decided to take the leap into indie dev with Elena.

They have a child together and live in the chaotic but endearing Frankfurt am Main in Germany.
